Max was literally pulled out from under an abandoned car by Bandade's President, Chris. As she pulled, the little dog severely bit all over Chris' arms. Regardless, Chris refused to let go. (The little dog thankfully only had puppy teeth at the time.)

Max was one terrified puppy for a little while, but after a little love and devotion from Bandade Animal Rescue, he was adopted by a friendly family who also adopted another one of Bandade's rescues, Jaxi.

Cocoa: Rescue Story and After Picture

Cocoa was found in a parking lot of a spay/neuter clinic where Bandade's President, Chris, was in line with another rescue. The lost pup was sniffing and wagging along, trying to play with the dogs waiting in line.

The clinic is located on a fairly bust street, so Chris grabbed him before anything could happen.

The puppy needed to be neutered and had a case of heartworms.

Cocoa turned out to be a great, intelligent dog. He was adopted by Chris' husband's sister, and since has had a wonderful, love-filled life.

Little Bit: Rescue Story and After Picture

Little Bit was nursed back to health after having parvo as a puppy. He was close to dying several times.

Little Bit was adopted by Bandade's Treasurer/Secretary, Margaret, who also provides a loving home for two other pups rescued by Bandade Animal Rescue. Along with Margaret's husband, they are one happy family.

Bandade's President, Chris, tried for weeks to rescue this pup, but the girl would have nothing to do with Chris.

Chris finally decided to resort to desperate measures. She drugged the dog by placing a sedative in a piece of food. However, the dog still ran from Chris. Luckily, the pup ran in between two houses, and Chris was able to throw a net over her.

Satchel would not let anyone, including Chris, touch her for several months. But, she finally came around after lots of exposure to other friendly dogs.

Seven years later, Satchel can still be somewhat neurotic, but she is a loving, loyal dog.

Quincy was taken in by Bandade Animal Rescue after a fellow rescuer asked if we could help.

At the time he was placed in Bandade's hands, he had no hair and a belly full of worms.

After treatment, the puppy was adopted but then returned by a family that claimed he was too "energetic".
This actually turned out for the better because several weeks after his return, Quincy became deathly ill and almost died. After a spinal tap, it was discovered that he had Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy. This meant that his growth plates had become infected.

After treatment, which included oral medications, and a little loving care, Quincy is absolutely fine and was adopted by a family who thinks he's not too energetic but "just perfect"!

Steve-O: Rescue Story and After Pictures

Steve-O was found by a fellow rescuer in a parking lot that was next to a major highway. This rescuer then called Bandade, asking if we could take the little guy.

Steve-O was given a little love and a countless number of hugs from Bandade before being adopted by a great family.

Mango: Rescue Story and After Picture

Mango was found wandering along a busy road. When she was finally within reach, Bandade's President, Chris was able to coax the frightened pup back to her home with the help of two friendly passersby.

The first thing that Chris noticed about the pup was the horrible stench coming from the dog. Upon further investigation, she also noticed that there was a rope wrapped around the dog's neck.

The rope was wrapped so tightly, that it had become embedded in the dog's skin and was now infected. The poor pup must have been tied up somewhere for a long time.

While the rope was removed, Mango had to be put under by the vet.

After a little time and a little Bandade love, Mango was put up for adoption. Soon after, she was adopted by one of Chris' next door neighbors.

Four Orange Kittens: Rescue Story and After Picture

These four kittens were all very sick for almost three months once Bandade was able to care for them.

When they finally got back being the playful kittens that we all hoped for, three of the kittens were adopted by one family, and the fourth kitten was adopted by another family.

Currently, the four kittens are loving their new families, just as their new families are loving them!

These four kittens (and their mom) were rescued during a rainstorm.

After being spayed/neutered and given all necessary shots, all four of these adorable kittens were adopted to loving homes.

Dorothy: Rescue Story and After Picture

You may have heard of Dorothy before. She was mentioned in Bandade's article that was featured in the Fort Bend Business magazine. You can read the article here.

Dorothy was found six years ago. When she was taken to the vet, she was predicted to only live 2 to 6 months. Because of her short life expectancy, she moved in with Bandade's President, Chris.

After living with Chris and her family six years, Dorothy passed away last month with a happy heart.

A wonderful family companion grew out of what was thought to be only a temporary dog.

She was greatly loved and is extremely missed.

Coney: Rescue Story and After Picture

Coney was found by Bandade's President, Chris, in a Sonic parking lot in The Heights Area in Houston, Texas. Upon seeing her, Chris bought a coney dog from the Sonic and offered it to the black dog. The dog jumped right into Chris' car.

Coney had many medical issues but was cared for and adopted by Chris.

Coney became the love of Chris' life and found a way into Chris' heart for eternity. Chris swears that Coney was her best rescue by far, and the day that she jumped into her car was the best day of Chris' life...

After nine years together, Coney was taken away after a heroic battle with cancer. However, her memories will last a lifetime, and Coney's friendship with Chris is a constant reminder to Bandade's President why she works so hard to provide a wonderful life for the animals she rescues.

After all, one day they will return the favor by providing unbiased love just as Coney did.

Dinahmite: Rescue Story and After Pictures

Dinahmite would always pull a disappearing act on Bandade's President, Chris, who had seen this dog for several months while taking and picking up her daughter, Sadie, from school. Chris became concerned that she would lose sight of and never catch this large pup, who always seemed to be with a black dog. If she talked to them the pair would run away, but Chris did not give up, leaving food for them each time she drove by for month after month.

One day Sadie saw the dog coming out from underneath an old church next to the local Wal-Mart in Missouri City, Texas. At that point Chris began putting water and food under the church. Eventually, the large, gray dog became familiar with Chris, allowing Chris to grab her one evening. She was also able to set up a trap and caught the dog's black companion.

Upon taking the pair to the vet, Chris discovered that Dinahmite was nursing puppies, but it did not appear that the puppies belonged to her. The puppies belonged to her black companion.

Chris rushed back to the church the next day and was able to pay a guy who was working on a nearby yard to crawl underneath the church in search for the puppies. When he crawled out, he explained that he had seen them, but they appeared to be dead. Devastated, Chris asked him to retrieve the puppies for her, regardless. She was determined to at least provide them with a decent burial. However, the puppies were only sleeping, and there were 12 total! Bandade Animal Rescue was able to take Dinahmite's foster puppies and adopt each one out to loving homes.

Dinahmite, however, had many medical issues due to the fact that she had birthed so many puppies and had likely had no medical care for her entire life. She had heartworms that were so bad the vet was nervous that she would not live through the treatments. After 5 months at the vet, Chris decided to bring the sweet dog to her home to live out the remainder of her life. The vet warned Chris that Dinahmite did not have very long to live.

Dinahmite lived with Chris for close to 9 months before she passed away. The important thing is that she died with one thing every dog should have...

a loving family.

Mojo Jojo: Before and After Pictures

Bandade's President, Chris, found this poor pup laying in a ditch. He was so pitiful and bloody that she was almost afraid to touch him. But, something had to be done. Chris proceeded to wrap him a newspaper and placed him in the backseat of her husband's truck.

Bandade treated Mojo Jojo for quite awhile, as it took a long time for him to feel/look 100%.

He was adopted by a wonderful couple that already had a dog that looked similar to Mojo Jojo. Bandade Animal Rescue came to the rescue once again!

Huckleberry: Before and After Pictures

Huckleberry's story begins in the middle of the summer, when the heat was sweltering.
On her way to the dentist Bandade's President, Chris, could have sworn she saw a head peeking out of a ditch. As it began to bother her, she called a friend and asked her to go check it out just in case. Lucky for Huckleberry, the friend found this poor dog. He had been hit by a car and had been in that very ditch for several days. The vet later informed Chris that the dog would not have made it much longer.

He had a dislocated shoulder, a fractured hip, and was starving as well as dehydrated. Huckleberry also had heartworms and needed to be neutered.

Without Bandade Animal Rescue, Huckleberry would never have survived. It's a good thing that Chris has such a good eye and big heart!

Skinny Minny: Before and After Pictures

Skinny Minny was thrown over a fence at Fondren Five Star Kennel where Bandade Animal Rescue houses several rescues.

She was deathly thin and had the longest finger nails. It appeared like someone kept her in a cage and just starved her.

Skinny Minny was treated and given a lot of love via Bandade Animal Rescue.

She was extremely sweet and loving even after all that she had been through. With the help of Bandade Animal Rescue, Skinny Minny was given a chance at finding happiness.

Six, Sweet Kittens: Rescue Story and After Pictures

A batch of six kittens were rescued by Bandade Animal Rescue from underneath a concession stand at a softball field.

(In addition to the kittens, Bandade ended up trapping 7(!) adult feral cats at the softball field, spayed/neutered them, and released them all.)

After being spayed/neutered and having any other medical needs addressed, these six kittens were given a second chance by Bandade Animal Rescue.

Lexi: Before and After Pictures

Lexi was found wandering in a parking on the 4th of July. She was lonely and terrified of the fireworks.

She had mange, heartworms, and needed to be spayed.

Eli: Rescue Story and After Picture

Eli is one of Bandade Animal Rescue's greatest rescues. It took Bandade's President, Chris, , almost eight months to trap him.

Chris was never able to even see his face because he would run when he saw the pair. For eight months Chris fed the dog every other day at the location where he stayed, under Hwy 6 and 521 outside of Missouri City, Texas. He lived under this overpass even during the devastating Hurricane Ike.

Chris fed him and tried to trap him a countless number of times. However, one day, after sitting in the car watching the trap for three or four hours, he smelled the sardines strategically placed and wandered into the trap. Chris cried when she saw this because she could not believe that she had finally got him.

Eli was treated for all kinds of worms, including heartworms, and needed to be neutered.

He was put up for adoption for a few months, but he stole Chris' heart. Soon after, she officially adopted Eli. He has found a home with the very person who refused to give up the fight to save him from an unpromising fate. He was worth the wait.

Gristle (Grizzly Bear): Before and After Pictures

While feeding another soon-to-be-rescue, Eli, Bandade's President, Chris, was approached by several people holding a box containing a tiny, motionless puppy. The people explained that they had found her and thought she had been hit by a car...

It was not a convincing story. The vet told Chris that the puppy was hit (or kicked) in the head.

The puppy was in a coma for several days and didn't move with an exception to breathing. When she came around, she would/could only walk in circles for at least two weeks. There were whisperings that the puppy had suffered major brain damage. She also needed to have her damaged eye removed and needed to be spayed.

Regardless of her injuries, Gristle pulled through with the help of Bandade Animal Rescue.

Gristle (AKA Grizzly Bear) was adopted and now lives in Kentucky with another of Bandade's rescues, Jerome Bettis.

When another rescue organization called Bandade's President, Chris, wanting to see if she would rescue a dog sitting up at the pound with no hope of being adopted, she jumped to rescue this pup before he was euthanized.

Jerome Bettis would never have been adopted due to his major medical issues. He needed to have his severely injured leg amputated, had mange, had an injured eye, had heartworms, and needed to be neutered. The amount of time needed and the vet bill were tremendous, but Jerome Bettis was a deserving dog who needed Bandade Animal Rescue.

He was adopted by a woman in Kentucky who has a heart and home for disabled dogs. He currently lives there with another one of Bandade's rescues, Gristle.

Doenut: Before and After Pictures

Doenut was found by Bandade's President, Chris, in a grocery store parking lot. Chris had doughnuts in the car and was able to coax this scared, black dog to her with the tasty treats. As Chris was attempting to grab the dog, a nearby man watched silently.

After thirty minutes, Chris was finally able to throw a lead over the dog's head. At that moment the man who was watching the whole scene began clapping and cheering.

Saving Doenut was a thrill in itself, but having someone cheer for her efforts made this rescue memorable for Chris.

Doenut had mange and was going into heat when Chris found her. Doenut desperately needed some medical attention and a big helping of love. She found this through Bandade Animal Rescue.

Soon after Doenut was rescued and treated, she was adopted by Bandade's Photographer and President's daughter, Sadie.

Steeley: Before and After Pictures

For several days in a row at the end of January, volunteers in the Corridor of Cruelty were trying to capture three puppies living under a house being remodeled. Luckily, one by one, each of the little bundles of fur were rescued but not before something quite sad and almost unbearable was discovered.

While waiting for the last puppy to pop its head out from under the dilapidated building, something different peeked out through the darkness instead. I was a block away trying to trap a dog in a Fiesta parking lot when I received the cell phone call from a volunteer stating that something almost monstrous was also living under the house. I was told it was a dog but it had no fur and its skin was winkled and its head was covered in a scab an inch thick and that it certainly must be on Death's door. While trying to comprehend what might be going on with this animal and preparing myself for the worst, I received another call back saying the dog had come out from under the house and had run across the street!

I quickly made my way to the spot and snapped one fast photo of the creature before it scurried away back to its hiding place under the house. I decided that this poor little dog was indeed not going to die - She was very much alive and breathing! She was simply a scared, young dog covered in mange. She obviously had been hiding for quite some time, and I can only guess that the sunlight and air actually hurt her raw and swollen skin. Gosh, how much pain she had lived with already all of her short life.

But as fate would have it, this day she must have decided 'enough was enough', and she just had to come out and scratch her back on the grassy patch across the street. Thank goodness for that! Because that photo I took saved her life.

I sent it out to the rescue networks, and Chris with Bandade Animal Rescue offered to take her if we could get her. Volunteers headed back out there that Saturday with a trap, the dog got in it, and Steeley was safely delivered to Chris on January 31, 2009 - The day the Steelers won the Super Bowl. That is how Steeley got her name.

Steeley is a very sweet, loving dog that has been adopted by Bandade's president, Chris Jenkins. Steeley loves her new home and has found her place as the best friend and sleeping buddy of Chris' nine-year-old daughter, Sadie.
